The artificial intelligence revolution in education - teaching anything, anywhere, anytime, to anyone, in a personalized manner

The development of artificial intelligence has now reached a level where all the knowledge accumulated by humanity in any form of language can be captured, accessed, processed and used by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is capable of recognizing relationships in any data set presented in digital form, and artificial intelligence can translate these recognized relationships into human-like behavior in the form of conversations. Artificial intelligence systems that use large generative language models are capable of coherent, logically constructed communication that appears intelligent to humans.

Because of these capabilities, information-processing generative artificial intelligence systems can be a universal and ideal tool to convey knowledge for the purpose of education. Artificial intelligence systems such as the ChatGPT service, if complemented with a specialized educational module, could potentially be able to teach any information to anyone, using a single, large, centralized database, in any language, and able to adapt to any existing educational level, personalized to the individual's learning style and speed of progress. Generative artificial intelligence applied to education, operating on large language modules, would be able to bring about a revolution in education comparable only to the printing of writing.

Virtually all of the technology required for implementation is available today, only the proper application of the technology is required. Education can be generated on-demand in the form of human-like conversations presented by a personalized avatar, supplemented by illustrative materials that are already publicly available to help the learner. Artificial intelligence can dynamically create and present the curriculum that corresponds to the given topic and matches the learner's actual level of knowledge. After the information is presented, dynamically generated tests can be automatically created on demand to verify the level of knowledge acquired. Using the transformer artificial intelligence technology for information processing in reverse, the artificial intelligent educational system can retrieve knowledge from the student by examining the test results and comparing the knowledge acquired by the student with the curriculum. The teaching AI can adaptively design the course by applying personalized instructions, taking into account the differences between the acquired and required knowledge. The training can be interrupted at any time by the student's questions, and the AI-generated on-demand training can continue with interactive flexibility based on the student's feedback.

These capabilities are already potentially available in today's artificial intelligence technology, they just need to be organized into a coherent educational system.

The virtual teacher based on artificial intelligence is infinitely patient, knows everything and can teach anything, even physical education using wearable biometric sensors for feedback, and can adapt to any individual learning style, skill, ability and speed. The virtual teacher based on artificial intelligence can be an ideal tool for education to transfer knowledge, even to teach knowledge that requires motor skills through analysis by camera.

However, it must be considered that the use of artificial intelligence in education can also pose serious social risks. Generative transformer technology with large language modules driven by artificial intelligence is apparently not currently capable of evaluating the meaning of information, and its use in education would therefore create an ideal tool for the political authorities to manipulate society by providing controlled information. Since AI accepts any correlations between the information in the database available to it without evaluating the meaning, it is also suitable for teaching false, misleading, manipulative information, and therefore a political elite without social control may be able to effectively use the AI-powered education system as a form of soft power to spread manipulative information in a controlled manner to maintain power.

Society should not use a knowledge base that is monitored or controlled by political authorities in an education system powered by artificial intelligence. The information used for education should be based on a Wikipedia-like database that is open, can be monitored by anyone, can be modified by social consensus, and is maintained without interference from political power. If this condition can be met, the use of AI in education can also be a cornerstone of sustaining democracy, because it democratizes access to information and gives everyone an equal opportunity to acquire knowledge.

Another risk of using AI in education is that AI is not an appropriate tool for shaping human behavior, nor is it an ideal tool for pedagogy, even in the case of human-like representation. Even with the advanced capabilities of AI in education, human pedagogy is the proper form of natural human interaction, and pedagogy that shapes human behavior must therefore remain a human activity. The use of artificial intelligence in education can be an ideal means to convey information for knowledge acquisition and can be a crucial way to achieve an effective society, but because it can act as an optimal way to transfer knowledge, it also runs the risk of neglecting the fundamental role of personal pedagogy in education, can continue without the need for real human interaction, which should be the determining method to shape human behavior.

Technological progress must not lead to the neglect of physically existing human interactions. The long-term survival of humanity in its biological form also depends on solving this problem.
