As we experience it, feeling, the possession of qualia and consciousness, the awareness of existence are part of the mind and they seem to be closely related.

Is there a connection between qualia, the feeling, and self-awareness? At the level of the phenomenon, the two functions appear to be related. According to the philosophical approach, the connection is that none of them have a physical origin. Our goal, however, is to recognize the physically existing reality.

In the thought of the physiology of qualia, we examined what kind of physically existing process can create qualia, the feeling. Can there be a physical connection between qualia, the feeling, and self-awareness?

We found a physical representation of the origin of qualia as a phenomenon. The phenomenon of qualia in the brain is caused by the activity of a neural network with distant association relationships conditioned by sensory activity.

If we assume that self-awareness is the result of a physical process, then the physical process that creates the phenomenon of qualia must be related to the physical process that creates self-awareness.

Although we do not know the physical origin of self-consciousness, there is a suggestion among thoughts about the possible physical origin of consciousness, the physiology of consciousness. It is assumed that the phenomenon of self-awareness is created by the self-sustaining activity of a nervous system structure (referred to in the thoughts as a shadow network) with connections to sensory organs and long-distance associational relationships.

Comparing the hypothetical physiology of qualia with the hypothetical physiology of self-consciousness, a biological-nervous, developmental-evolutionary relationship can be recognized between the two functions. When the nervous system that creates qualia becomes self-sustaining, i.e., feedback connections are made in the networking neurons, the connecting neurons that create the qualia experience become the neuronal network that creates self-awareness.

According to this view, the nervous system structure that creates the phenomenon of self-consciousness is an evolutionary progression of the nervous system structure that creates the phenomenon of qualia.
