Our knowledge of the matter is deeper and deeper. We know a lot about the quarks and the electrons and their forces, how they work to form atoms. We know a lot about how the atoms form gaseous, liquid, solid, and other states of matter. We know a lot about how these states work and form planets, stars, galaxies. We know a lot about how the atoms form complex molecules and become a self-sustainable, self-replicate system, living matter. However, we do not know how a bunch of matter capable of having the properties to recognize itself, distinguish itself from the outside world, realize the existence. We do not know how a bunch of matter creates consciousness.
Why a state of the matter exists which is capable of recognizing its existence? Why is this state possible at all? Is it a natural consequence of a particular structure, or any adequate structure? Maybe. Or is it an emerged property of a biological structure, the brain? Possible. Or is it a given property that we just carry? Could be.
However, it is without argument, we are a very unique state of matter. It is a miracle of our universe, that the quarks and the electrons, these building blocks, organized on several levels, capable of carrying the property of consciousness, to realize its existence.
We did not earn it, we do not know how to create it, we just possess it. We do not know if it exists anywhere else in the universe, but we are aware we have it. This is our precious treasure, which we do not know if it could be created anywhere else. We must protect it in every way. We are the crown of the matter. We are a bunch of matter which is capable of recognizing, that there is something, the universe exists. We are the state of the matter witnessing the existence.
And the biggest miracle, that this state of the matter is possible. Our universe tuned to carry life is nothing compared to be capable of carrying a state of its own to recognize itself. It is the finest tuning of our universe.
It is not just the finest tuning, but it is the ultimate goal as well. Why is the universe without recognizing itself? However, it is not a consequence. The matter could exist without knowing itself. Most of the things do not have consciousness. If we would not be here then would not be consciousness either. And our existence is not a consequence of certain processes, then neither the consciousness is. Or is it?
We are almost sure other animals possess some level of consciousness. Maybe consciousness is a common, or emerged property of an appropriately complex structure of matter. It is not less miraculous either. Consciousness then is a consequence. However, the question remains: how nature capable of finding and assembling such a structure. Maybe because is anything which can happen, eventually, will happen. The universe found this structure, our structure, in around fourteen billion years. If the conscious structure inevitable in a proper environment, then the universe could find it much earlier at other places. Then the universe has teemed with conscious structures. These are not necessary to build technological civilizations, so not easy to recognize them. However, they are not less conscious. The universe still young compared to the many thousands of billion years, expected to spend until the last stars vanish, and beyond. If consciousness is a consequence, then the universe will be full of conscious structure.
Even if it is true, still it is a miracle, that a bunch of quark and electron realize of its own, and everything else's existence. The miracle even bigger, if the consciousness is a given property: how the matter is capable of bearing it? And the biggest question in this case: what is its origin?
The consciousness exists, because why would a universe exist without knowing its existence? We are in a universe capable of recognizing itself. Wow!!!
